Ashley Coburn, PhD
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Coburn works with children (age seven and up), teens, college students, and young adults. She specializes in delivering evidence-based therapies for mood and anxiety disorders, self-harm, suicidality, trauma, eating disorders, and adjustment issues. She has expertise in the treatment of depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and borderline personality disorder. Dr. Coburn also has clinical interest in supporting neurodivergent clients experiencing difficulties with emotion regulation.
Dr. Coburn’s treatment incorporates cognitive, behavioral, mindfulness, and acceptance techniques. Dr. Coburn has expert training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD (ERP), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy PCIT for selective mutism-SM. Dr. Coburn has presented on DBT to psychology professionals and school personnel.
Dr. Coburn’s treatment approach is warm, collaborative, and highly practical, focusing on helping clients translate the skills learned in session into their everyday lives. She teaches skills to her clients so they can experience tangible growth, build resilience, and navigate daily challenges with greater ease. She is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel deeply heard and understood as they work toward meaningful, lasting change and build a life that feels genuinely their own.
Education and Training:
Dr. Coburn earned her PhD in School Psychology and MA in Professional Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado where she was awarded the Dean’s Citation of Excellence. Prior to her graduate training, Dr. Coburn received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas
During her graduate training, Dr. Coburn completed her predoctoral internship training at High Plains Psychology Internship Consortium in Colorado, with an emphasis in school-based behavioral health interventions for youth and young adults. She also completed externships at Birch Psychology, Northern Colorado Assessment Center, Anxiety Therapy of Colorado, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the Greeley-Evans School District. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Center for Effective Treatment, specializing in providing adherent DBT to adolescents and adults.
Currently, Dr. Coburn is a licensed psychologist at Foothills CBT. In her free time she enjoys hiking, yoga, playing kickball, and spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs (Betty & Luna).
